A day in the life: Nick Whitfield - Comms Manager

Nick Whitfield

Personal Background

I joined the company having not worked in this industry before. My background is in sports and technology, as well as service-based agencies. So while I was well-versed in B2B marketing and communications, I was really excited for a fresh challenge in renewables. Admittedly, there was a very steep learning curve getting up to speed with everything AD, but it was also a really rewarding experience getting to grips with the various jobs people do and how it all comes together to form the big picture.

Even from the interview process, I was impressed with how the internal culture at Future Biogas came across. I really like how collaborative the team is – how welcoming everyone was when I joined, and being around so many extremely smart people definitely keeps you on your toes!

Since joining the company I’d say those first impressions have been confirmed. I think the company is a progressive employer in how it is growing the business, and I really value the freedom and trust I’m provided with in how I get my work done.

Average Day

My day-to-day work is quite varied. I can be working with journalists on enquiries or stories, working with internal teams on articles, building a publishing schedule for the external communications channels, working with HR on internal comms projects or with suppliers on larger projects (like building this very website!). I enjoy that diversity and I think we’re building up a great body of work now behind the Future Biogas brand that communicates the company story and the mission that the business is looking to achieve with Project Carbon Harvest.

While I’m based in Guildford head office, I’ve also enjoyed travelling to sites to meet the teams who run our plants and those who work with our farming partners. These are the people on the frontlines of our operations and it’s always interesting and useful to hear their perspectives. I also appreciate the freedom to work on a hybrid basis for those days where I need to focus on writing or high concentration tasks vs having the in-person advantages of the office.
